Postsecondary educational support enable partnerships with two young women who are following their dreams of earning a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and English Literature. We are actively pursuing partnerships for scholarships of other interested students by connecting them with other opportunities for academic support.
In recent years Soul Source has begun working with local school and community leaders to identify students whose success in secondary school has created opportunities to pursue further education at college, university, or vocational programs. Once identified we help finance next steps in their career development with scholarships that cover tuition and fees. Currently students participating in this program are seeking to become nurses, teachers and other professions that will have a transformative impact on their communities.
Postsecondary Scholarship Students
Evelyn Ogweno grew up in Kamasengre and is one of twelve children with happy parents and loves her community because the members are always humble and everybody is concerned with his or her business. She attended Kamasengre Mixed Secondary School where she was an OMP scholarship recipient. Evelyn went on to attend Homa Bay KMTC and graduated in December 2017 with a dipolma in Nursing. “I just want to say thank you for your good support, mentoring me to be a respected person in the community and my family is proud of me too.”
Rebecca Ochola is the third born in a family of five children and completed her form four at Kamasengre Secondary School in the year 2011. She is currently in her third year at Maseno University and is pursuing a degree in Education Arts, studying English and Literature and looks forward to being a teacher. “I take my studies seriously as I want to inspire the young girls in my society to push on in life and take their studies seriously.” Rebecca adds that, “I hope to change the life of others as well by being a good role model especially to girls from my village in Rusinga.”
Aileen Audrey grew up on Rusinga Island with her mom and younger brother. She was an OMP scholarship student at Kamasengre Mixed Secondary School and completed her form four in 2013. Aileen worked with a theater company for several years and then early in 2017 was admitted to Maseno University and is currently earning a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Textile; Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising with IT. Aileen said, “I and am grateful to be doing the course I admire and wish to be a fashion designer after my studies.”
Eunice Auma Otieno, was an OMP scholarship student at Kamasengre Mixed Secondary School from 2012-2015 completing form four at the top of her class. Eunice qualified for a Nursing Course in March 2017 and is currently studying Physiotherapy at Homabay KMTC. Eunice says, “Thank you for your support towards raising the remaining tuition fees and the requirements to enable me to achieve what I want to be in the future as a useful person to the community, the school (KMSS) and my family.”
Diana Drizela Anyango is nineteen years old and was raised in a single parent family with her mother, little brother and elder sister on Rusinga Island. Diana was an OMP scholarship student at Kamasengre Mixed Secondary School and now is in her first year at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology where she is pursuing a Bachelors in Business Management. Diana shared, “I thank the Soul Source for seeing me through my secondary education upto this level that I’ve reached and I request you and the foundation continue to help and see me pursue my degree.”
